Thank you to everyone that donated and participated in our silent auction held during the Oktoberfest on 10/18. That was so much fun! We raised enough to buy three vintage Flying Juniors in great shape and threw in a cute, green meanie, Opti to boot! A round of applause for Tom Line who made these available to us at such a deal and to Mike Deck for being ever on the lookout for deals like these and the needs of NSJS. A huge thank you also goes to Bill Anthony for all his manpower juggling boats and trailers to get these treasures to their new home at NSJS.
Let’s congratulate our 50/50 winner while we’re at it. Bridgett Rodgers took home a handsome sum of $195. Now that we are cleared with the Michigan Charitable Gaming Commission, we look forward to holding more 50/50s with the next one coming up during Euchre on January 2, 2026. Might not be as big a payout but fun nevertheless.
Yeah Mike Koch! On October 19th he ran the full 26.2 miles in the Detroit Marathon to support Junior Sailing. Wow!
Thank you to Marissa Principe and all the Fall workday volunteers that helped Junior Sailing with some of our tasks. As great a job as they did, we just keep finding more things that need to be done. You can get work hours for helping Junior Sailing. Our SignUp Genius list is available at: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0C4AABA822A5FDC07-54576715-todo#/ Please let us know if you have some time to help us out. We are also aware that some school’s have community hours requirements for their students and I have some fun projects that could fill those hours. Not kidding, this can be fun! Especially if you like to take pictures (hint, hint).
On October 25th, Junior Sailing was represented at the Harrison Twp. Hallowpalooza where we greeted over 300 people with bags of popcorn. Over 22 pounds of popcorn was enjoyed by all! If you missed it, you missed out. I’m kind of bummed… I was so busy scooping popcorn, I didn’t get to play in the bounce house, pet the critters, or ride the pony. Maybe next year.
St. Elmo’s and Friday Fun Sail folks - we will be handing out your skipper bags at the Haul Out party, November 7th. See you there!
